Cant de l'Estoreta Velleta 2025 Contest in Plaza del Carmen

Every year, Plaça de l'Arbre from the Barrio del Carmen sector organizes the contest sponsored by the Local Fallas Board

Fallas lovers have an unmissable event on March 2nd at 10:00 AM in Plaza del Carmen for the Cant de l'Estoreta Velleta 2025 contest. Fallas commissions from all over Valencia take part in this competition full of tradition organized by the Plaça de l'Arbre Falla, sponsored by the Local Fallas Board, and featuring the Senior Children's Fallera of Valencia and her Court of Honor.

The "Cant de L'estoreta Velleta" competition was created in 1961, when fallas members of Plaza del Árbol decided to relive their childhood, those days when they collected old furniture to burn as a falla.

To do so, they dressed like they did when they were young and walked around with the estoreta velleta, or old rug, which they used to transport the items donated by their neighbors and which they then burned during the Fallas. While they walked the streets, they sang the popular song.

Ever since, the contest has been held in Plaza del Carmen. At this event, presided over by the Senior Children's Fallera of Valencia and her Court of Honor, all groups have to perform the traditional song, and the atmosphere of old Valencia is recreated with the participants wearing the typical Valencian dress of the 19th and 20th centuries.

After the exhibition, prizes are awarded to the "Conjunt" ―ensemble―, "Xiquet més típic" ― most typical child and "Cant" ―singing―.

This tradition has been able to keep the essence of historic Valencia alive and adds a touch of nostalgia to the Fallas celebrations.
