Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at Les Arts

Categories: music.

TOURISTIC AREA: City of Arts and Alameda

The lyrical season comes to a close under the baton of James Gaffigan.

Mozart and "The Magic Flute", we can't think of a better way to end the lyrical season at Les Arts. Six performances, from June 6 to 19, of an opera staged for the third time in Valencia and that promises, once again, to sell out the Palau de Les Arts.

Plot of "The Magic Flute"

The struggle of good and evil, between the Night and the Sun, for the daughter of both, the virtue called Pamina, is resolved between the forces of nature and reason, which will support the Sun, and the dark recesses of the soul and the infernal caves, which will support the Night.

It will be the pure blood of a prince in love, Tamino, who decides the hegemony of light over darkness, of reason over superstition, in this opera from the Age of Enlightenment that previews romanticism and revolutions.

James Gaffigan at Les Arts

For the third time at Les Arts, Mozart's most beloved opera, under the baton of the theatre's musical director, James Gaffigan, who once again closes out the lyrical season. And with a very special guest: bass singer Stephen Milling, who returns to "his home", Les Arts, in the role of Sarastro. He is accompanied by Giovanni Sala as Tamino (he was Don Ottavio in the last Don Giovanni) and Romanian baritone Gyula Orendt as Papageno.

They will be guided on their journey from darkness into light by stage director Simon McBurney, the creator of this intelligent, thoughtful and beautiful production, which had to be revived in Amsterdam by popular demand shortly after its premiere in 2012, and which has traveled halfway around the world: Aix-en-Provence Festival, Metropolitan in New York, London, Bergen and Basel.

Les Arts closes out the season with an extraordinary opera by an extraordinary composer. Tickets for "The Magic Flute" will sell out fast so hurry!
