The Olympia Theatre was opened on 10 November 1915 and was built by the architect Vicente Rodríguez Martín (1875-1933) on the land where the Convent of San Gregorio once stood. Its inaugural performance was the Barber of Seville and featured the best companies of the time (María Guerrero, Enrique Borrás and Catalina Bárcena, Enrique Rambal and the pianist Arthur Rubinstein).
After more than fifty years of showing films, drama took centre stage once more in 1984. The Olympia Theatre’s owner is Olympia Metropolitana S.A.
The company has several business lines:
Operating and managing theatres, in particular, the Olympia Theatre, the Talia Theatre, the Catarroja Auditorium Theatre (TAC) and the Torrent Auditorium, and the programme for the Apolo Theatre in Barcelona.
Managing and operating the Cinestudio D’Or in Valencia.
Stage productions through different co-production agreements with different companies. Managing Librería Le in Madrid, the largest independent bookshop in Madrid, with more than 50,000 essential books in 500 m2 of shop-floor space at 154 Paseo de la Castellana.
Shows produced: La tentación vive arriba (The Seven Year Itch), Familia, La bella Helena (La Belle Hélène), Spot, Inés desabrochada (Inés Unbuttoned), Nadie es perfecto (Nobody’s Perfect), Una Pareja de miedo (The Mystery of Irma Vep), Glorius, La Ratonera (The Mousetrap), La Extraña Pareja (The Odd Couple).
