Micalet Theater

TOURISTIC AREA: Historical center
The Micalet Theatre is located in the Micalet Choral Society, a one-hundred-year-old civil association with a long cultural tradition in Valencia. In 1995, Micalet Choral Society supported the Micalet Theatre Company’s project to develop a production and exhibition centre which can offer a regular, high-quality programme in Valencian. The project, which was undertaken by the Micalet Theatre Company, was received very warmly by the public and the old theatre was demolished in 1996. In 2001, the Micalet Theatre Company opened the new Micalet Theatre, a multi-purpose and intimate theatre that is very well equipped and enhances communication between actors and the audience. It produces a large number of in-house productions, which are mainly directed by Joan Peris, and it occasionally collaborates with directors from the rest of Spain such as: Carme Portaceli, Konrad Schiedrich, Manel Dueso, Carol López, Lilo Baur and Pep Tosar. Carles Santos, Solo Picó, Albert Plà and Dagoll Dagom also work with us, as does Xavi Castillo on occasion. The majority of Valencian actors have graced our stage, as well as international figures, such as Peter Brook, Michel Piccoli, Natasha Parry and Maddalena Crippa. The regular programme of performing arts that take place here has consolidated the Micalet Theatre as a benchmark for theatre quality in the eyes of the Valencian public.
