The Tossal Gallery
Plaza del Tossal s/n, 46001 - València
TOURISTIC AREA: Historical center
The Galeria del Tossal is an open exhibition area of the history of the city where important remains of the Islamic city walls and exhibitions related to the cultural heritage of the city can be seen. After the fall of the Caliphate of Cordoba, at the beginning of the 6th century, Valencia became the capital of a ‘Taifa’ kingdom and underwent significant urban growth. Between 1021 and 1061,a new city wall was built to protect the population and those inhabitants who arrived from other points of the al-Andalus region. From the 12th century on, the wall was extended to the South and to the East, incorporating new defensive elements such as the square towers, and an outer wall. Nowadays several stretches of wall and the remains of these towers can still be seen in the Carmen district.
