The Mercantile Ateneo was born on October 23, 1879 to "meet the cultural needs and training, in their profession, of the employees of the trade." Quoting the 2nd Marques del Turia, who was President of the entity: "In the Athenaeum everything has been promoted, from the Trade Schools to the Bourse of Brokers, from the Chamber of Commerce to the university progress, from the Language Schools to the Trade shows, the transfer of water to the conservation of monumentality, the South Solution for the defence of the city to the work of the Port. Also, the Ateneo gave birth to works as diverse as the Valencian Tram Society, the first radio station in the city, the Madrid-Cuenca railway connection, the transfer of the Church of St. Catherine of Siena or the Valencian Association of Charity .
Well known is also the great company that the Ateneo carried out with the organization of the Regional Exhibition of 1909, engine of the industry and the Valencian trade of our century and of which there are footprints as significant as the Anthem of the Exhibition, commissioned by the Athenaeum for the occasion and today Official Community Anthem.
In 1960 the Hon. Valencia City Council awarded the Ateneo the Gold Medal of the city. In 1970 the Council of Ministers declared it, Entity of Public Utility.
This unique building located in the heart of Valencia, in the same Plaza del Ayuntamiento, has several different spaces for all kinds of events and events both corporate and congress, as for private events and celebrations. It has different rooms, such as the Stolz Hall and the Noble Hall, as an auditorium and terraces with views of the Town Hall Square.
A place with history to host all kinds of events.
