An evening of Spanish light opera at Les Arts with Doña Francisquita

Categories: show.

TOURISTIC AREA: City of Arts and Alameda

Lluís Pasqual pays his unique and sincere homage to the zarzuela grande genre of light opera with the revitalised Doña Francisquita. The production comes to Valencia’s Les Arts this 3rd, 5th, 7th and 10th November.

Audiences will enjoy this lyric comedy inspired by Lope de Vega’s La Discreta Enamorada (The Ingenious Lover). Playing the protagonists will be soprano Ruth Iniesta and tenor Ismael Jordi, under the musical direction of Jordi Bernàcer.

Rounding out the cast are the voices of Ana Ibarra, María José Suárez and Gonzalo de Castro, among others. The fantastic Lucero Tena will also appear as a guest artist with her castanets.

This zarzuela tells the story of a company of artists, who are recording the zarzuela Doña Francisquita in a studio. Years later, they bring it to television, a nod to the classic romance of Doña Francisquita and Fernando, who were lovers in 19th-century Madrid.
